Censored!

If you are an American, then it doesn't matter whether you are a liberal, conservative, libertarian, or independent, you need to be concerned about the growing level of censorship in the US.

I'm a lifelong political Independent who has voted for an equal number of Democrat and Republican presidents. When I first heard inklings of censorship, I though little of it. But now I'm noticing political, medical, and cultural censorship from Google, Facebook, Twitter, and the media in general, It has me greatly concerned, and you should be too!

While some people are happy to see Trump and his followers being censored, do we really want news agencies, social media, and big tech executives deciding the information to which we are and are not privy? I would much prefer to have access to all the information and draw my own conclusions. I believe most Americans would agree, Republican or Democrat. Yet, so many of my friends, colleagues, and acquaintances aren't aware of the extent to which censorship has reached it's tentacles into our everyday lives.

Did you know that medical information - both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 related - is currently being censored? For example, the websites of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practitioners are being removed from Google searches. Wikipedia and YouTube are deleting entries posted by CAM practitioners. This is medical data from CAM sources recognized by the US National Institutes of Health that big tech and social media platforms are banning. If medical information is being suppressed, how can we make informed medical decisions for ourselves and our loved ones?

Do you realize that cancel culture is also a form of censorship? Will the growing cancel culture, which President Obama so aptly states we need to, "get over quickly," lead to further censoring of the non-political arenas of our lives. It is already happening folks!

I have friends from communist countries who risked their lives to come to America. They are frightened by the expansion of censorship and cancel culture in America, both of which they experienced in countries including Venezuela, Cuba, China, or Russia. A friend from Venezuela says it gives her nightmares that she is seeing this in America!

Are you willing to look beyond the silencing of Trump and his supporters to see how the expansion of cancel culture and censorship will affect your personally and erode the very freedoms on which America was built? It is not up to big tech, social media, and journalists to tell us how to think.

I encourage you to open your eyes to the effects of censorship. Write your members of Congress to encourage them to stand up against censorship from Google, Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia, Twitter, Instagram, and the news media.
